The World of Warhammer is set in the Warhammer universe and is similar in size, layout and climate to the Earth, spanning several continents. It is orbited by two moons - the white moon Mannslieb and the dark moon Morrslieb (said to be a giant chunk of warpstone). According to the earliest legends, the world was formed by a space faring race called the Old Ones, who possessed god-like powers. They built "warp gates" at the north and south poles which allowed them to travel quickly through space, but they were driven away from the planet when the warp gates collapsed, which initiated the coming of Chaos into the world.

[edit] Continents

[edit] The Old World

The Old World consists of The Empire (west of which is the isle of Albion), Bretonnia, Estalia, Tilea and Kislev, north of which is Norsca, the traditional western border of the Old World is the Sea of Claws or Great Ocean - the World's Edge Mountains in the east, and the Border Princes in the south. This region is the equivalent of Europe and is covered mostly in Human nations, with a notable Dwarf population.

[edit] The New World

The New World consists of Naggaroth, Lustria and the wild areas in between (notably the Isthmus of Lustria, a narrow strip of forested land between Naggaroth and Lustria). The New World is historically either full of dangerous creatures or barren and desolate, in fact only the Dark Elves, some human tribes and Lizardmen dwell here. This region is analogous to The Americas, with Naggaroth being the equivalent of North America and Lustria South America.

[edit] The Eastern Lands

The Eastern Lands consist of the barren Dark Lands, the Oriental Empire of Cathay (the equivalent of China), The isle of Nippon (the equivalent of Japan, from where it gets its name), the Ogre Kingdoms which are in the Mountains of Mourn, the Kingdoms of Ind (India), The Hinterlands of Khuresh (South East Asia) and the Eastern Steppes (Mongolia and the (Eurasian Steppe). These regions are roughly the equivalent of various parts of Asia.

[edit] The Southlands

The Southlands consist of the Southlands themselves, The ancient Kingdom of Nehekhara (also known as The Land of the Dead) and the dry land of Araby, north of which is the Badlands and Marshes of Madness. The World's Edge Mountains continue down the eastern badlands and run south through the centre of the Southlands. These areas reflect Africa and the Middle East.

[edit] Ulthuan

Ulthuan is an enchanting circular-shaped island continent in the northern Great Ocean inhabited by the High Elves, with similarities to the legendary Atlantis, although some say (based on its geographical location) that it is more similar to Greenland. Many other Islands surround Ulthuan and it is separated into the sheltered and cultured inner Kingdoms and the wild and rugged outer Kingdoms.

[edit] The Chaos Wastes

The Chaos Wastes are located at the north pole, and probably also at the south pole. At the very north and south poles are giant portals to the Realm of Chaos, another dimension entirely. The Chaos Wastes are, at the edges, a tundra-like landscape. As one ventures inwards, the land and it's inhabitants become ever more twisted by mutating raw Magical energy -the power of Chaos. Daemons, Northmen and mutants such as Beastmen inhabit the wastes.

[edit] Oceans

[edit] The Great Ocean

The Great Ocean has also been called the World Pond and is a large ocean between the Old World and the Southlands, and the New World and is also the equivalent of the Atlantic Ocean. The Great Ocean joins the Far Sea at the southern tip of Lustria, and the Sea of Dread at the southern tip of The Southlands.

[edit] The Far Sea

The Far Sea is a large ocean analogous to the Pacific Ocean between Cathay, Khuresh and the west coast of Naggaroth. Nippon and the Isles of Ethlis are in this ocean, as are the Sulpheret Islands, Turtle Isles and Broken Lands. The far sea joins the Sea of Dread at the Gates of Caliph (the southern tip of Khuresh and the northern tip of the Southern Chaos Wastes.

[edit] The Sea of Dread

The Sea of Dread is a medium sized equivalent of the Indian Ocean, south of the Dark Lands and east of the Southlands, west of the Kingdoms of Ind. The Dragon Isles are in the Sea of Dread, directly south of the Dark Lands. As well as many smaller tributaries and some isolated High Elf colonies.

[edit] The Inner Sea

The Inner Sea is the central sea inside the crescent-shaped continent of Ulthuan. it is divided into two major sections; and eastern section called the Sea of Dreams, and a western part called the Sea of Dusk. The city of Lothern guards the "Straits of Lothern" which lead into the Inner Sea, protecting Ulthuan's inner kingdoms from attack.
